Afterschool Clubs at St Mary's Portslade
September 2018 - Autumn Term
From September 2018 the pick up times and activities for the PLAY after school clubs will be staying the same as last year. All sports and creative clubs will be finishing at 4.30pm with less specific activities and a childcare option continuing with later pick up times of 5pm and 5.30pm.
All clubs are fully inclusive for all children unless otherwise stated
Football - Football is the most popular choice at St Mary's with boys and girls of all ages taking part. This club is fully inclusive for all children with something for everyone. We look at different aspects of skill development such as passing, dribbling and shooting but we always include lots of gameplay! For year 5 and 6 there is the opportunity to take part in the Hove and Portslade football league as well as the multiple cups and tournaments we take part in every year.
Clay - Clay club is a chance for your child to get creative and get messy! Each week we follow a different theme and try to sculpt and mold our clay as best we can. After the clay has dried it can either be taken home or left at school to paint and prettify the week after.
Dance - This will be a brand new club for this academic year. We have had lots of children asking for a Dance Club and here it is! Each term there will be a brand new Dance and at the end of each term we will be putting on a show for the parents and the rest of the children. We will also be taking part in events such as Dance at the Dome.
Arts and Crafts - As always at St Mary's we like to get creative and messy! The arts and crafts club includes everything from painting and drawing to collage and mosaic making. Often throughout the year we contribute and make displays for the schools big events such as remembrance day, Easter and of course sports day. This club has something for every child to unleash their creative side.
Gymnastics - Gymnastics is a sport that contains all the essential elements of physical literacy and is an excellent asset in a childs physical development. It is also highly popular at St Mary's with boys and girls of all ages coming along and really enjoying themselves. We cover a whole range of gymnastics aspects from individual skills to group performances. We always try and use as much equipment and apparatus as possible to keep the sessions fun, exciting and different each week.
Cooking (Please Enquire for Availibility) - Not only is cooking an essential life skill, it is also great fun for all ages! We try and keep the recipes we use as healthy as possible while making sure the food is also delicious and fun to make. So far we have made all sorts from, home made bread to frozen yoghurts to crunchy granola bars. We work in a nut free school and we try our best to cater to all major allergies so please let us know in advance of any allergies your children may have.
Outdoor Multi Skill - Thursday is a day designed for all ages and all abilities to come take part in a complete range of activities with the emphasis on getting active and having fun. We give the children a chance to direct their own activities in way that allows them to engage in a multitude of physical activities together. So far dodgeball, nerf attack and ultimate frisbee have been the most popular choices!
Film Club - We asked the children of St Mary's what club they would like to see run after school and after a vote we found that the children really wanted a film club. So here it is! Every Thursday we will be watching the best films around and giving them our very own St Mary's critique!
Netball (KS2 Girls Only) - We have an amazing netball set up at St Mary's. We are lucky enough to have some great girls who are positive, committed and just love the game of netball! We cover everything in netball including fun games intended to learn new skills and the rules they need to know to play proper games. For year 5 and 6 there is the chance for them to represent the school in the league we take part in and the multiple tournaments we enter. For year 3 and 4 there is the great opportunity to get active, learn something new and fall in love with a new sport.
Lego - This will be a brand new club for the new academic year. We have had many children and parents requesting this so we felt we had to deliver! Each week will have a different theme with children being able to create, discover and explore the world of lego. This is a great activity to get children thinking, creating and learning for themselves.
